The engine zone control cable stops the blade when the control handle is released on walk-behind lawn mowers. If the cable is broken it will cause the brake to not release even when the lever is pressed. This is a genuine OEM sourced replacement part that is designed for use with lawn mowers. Please note this durable metal rubber insulated cable is sold individually.

I made sure I looked to see how I was taking off the control cable and replaced the new one the same way. I had to use needle nose plier to remove the old cable (little black flaps), they have to be pulled away from the cable (pulling them off) after that it was simple to remove the entire cable and replace it with the new one. Watch how you connect the cable (your ends) to the lawn mower base.

2. Manuals said cable problem was frequent cause of failure of mower to start.
3. I found that the broken cable easily pulled out of sheath, half from each end.
4. Removed old cable assembly, and then the housing, spring, and half cable from back of motor.
5. Manuals showed part number for mower, only 3 years old. However, part number had changed several times. Many websites no longer offered the part but after two or three hours of searching, I found the part on eReplacementParts.com. Part had to be ordered from manufacturer and I got it in about two weeks.
6. Part installed in about one minute. Then, pliers were used to re-connect spring, and screwdriver to re-install cover where cable attached to motor -- another minute or two tops.
