This is an original part from MTD for use with Lawn Tractors. The blade engagement cable pulls and pivots the belt idler pulley to tighten the belt and spin the cutting blades. The most common reason for replacing the cable is if it is damaged, causing the mower blades to not engage. This part is sold individually. The tools that you will need to replace the blade engagement cable is a 3/8” socket, 1/4” socket, and pliers.

2. Removed old cable from deck blade engage lever.
3. Lowered mowing deck and disconnected from mower.
4. Routed new cable around wire cables and levers.
5. Connected cable to lever and to mowing deck.
6. Reconnected mowing deck and lifted to mowing height.
7. Verified that cable was not in the way of lever pivot points and not rubbing wiring.
8. Replaced battery box and battery.
9. Tested movement of cable and blade engagement.

2. Removed the retaining clip from the cable on the deck.
3. Disconnected the spring from the pulley on the deck that engages the PTO.
4. Begin removing the cable from the deck and pulling it through the back to where it is attached for the PTO Level.
5. Removed the cable from the slot.
6. install the new cable in the reverse action due to the spring can be stretched to reattach to the pulley.
Belts replaced and deck engagement cable replacement broke.
