Hold the handle tightly with one hand and the grip with your other hand. While the engine is active, press the hand guard with the back of your hand until the brake engages. This should stop the chain instantly. Release the throttle and chain brake. If the chain did not stop when you tested, do not use the chainsaw.
Before you begin any repair, always switch off the engine and take the plug cap off the spark plug. To access the braking mechanism, remove the chain, guide bar, unscrew the screw, and remove the guide plate. Now Unscrew the screw and remove the braking mechanism. The braking mechanism is a part that should be regularly checked and cleaned. Position the new braking mechanism. Place the cover back on (give it a clean before doing so), then put the guide plate back on."
