    , electrical contact cleaner

I dug the broken post out of the spade connection's female half, then sprayed both of the mower's terminals liberally with electric contact cleaner to remove any corrosion, etc. After that it was simply plug the terminals onto the new battery, set it into it's housing on the mower deck and close the cover. Oh, and charge the new battery before use - minimum 6 hrs., maximum 12 hrs.
