The unit leaked chain lube oil.

A friend gave me his old Ryobi tree pruner as he had upgraded. The unit leaked chain lube oil. Disassembly revealed that the oil tank gasket leaked around a gap and that the bar pad plate was missing (possibly as a result of an earlier chain sharpening or replacement). The gasket was replaced. The tank reassembled. The bar and chain (including the bar pad plate) reattached and chain tension adjusted. The unit now performs like new.
