    1. I removed the rubber cap.
    2. I removed the ring clip with a small screwdriver.
    3. I removed the washer and ball
    4. I installed the new washer which has an indent for the ball
    5. I greased the new ball and inserted it in its slot
    6. I installed the new ring clip to retain the washer
    7. I reinstalled the rubber cap

    Bits would not stay in the chuck

    Removed the rubber dust shield in nose of tool.
    Retracted tube to gain access to retaining clip.
    Pried off clip & removed spring and ball.
    Cleaned & replaced spring, ball , clip in reverse.
    Tool works well.
