Does your table saw not turn on? You might need a new switch. Your DeWALT table saw uses a simple switch to turn the motor on and off. The switch has four terminals, which allow it to switch both the positive and the neutral power wires. After many years of use, the switch will wear out and will need to be replaced. It can be easily tested with a multimeter.
Let's get started.
REMOVING THE SWITCH 1. Unplug the saw.
a. Disconnect (unplug) the saw from the power source.
2. Remove the switch.
a. Use a screwdriver to remove four screws that secure the switch.
b. Note the location of each wire before disconnecting the switch.
c. Remove the wires from the switch.
d. Press the tabs on the back of the switch to remove it from the switch plate. DIAGNOSING A FAULTY SWITCH 3. Test the switch.
a. Set the multimeter to read continuity.
b. With the switch in the "OFF" position, you should be getting no continuity through the switch when testing it.
c. Test both sides of the switch contacts.
d. With the switch in the "ON" position, you should be getting continuity with both sides of the switch.
e. If either side of the switch showed no continuity while it is in the "ON" position, you will need to replace the switch. INSTALLING THE NEW SWITCH 4. Install the switch.
a. Align the loop on the switch plate with the holes on the switch paddle.
b. Snap the new switch into the switch plate.
c. Refer to the notes to determine the correct location of each wire and connect them to the new switch.
d. Using a screwdriver, secure the switch with four screws.
