Pick up tube fell off bottom of carburetor into the fuel tank. Removed fuel tank, secured the original pick up tube and reinstalled fuel tank. Not as easy as it sounds considering I did not remove carburetor because the mounting bolts were stripped. Tiller is 20years old.

Removed the fuel tank and carb cleaned the carb and installed the rebuild kit. I cut the damaged metal out of the fuel tank, cleaned the rust out of the rest of the tank with a needle scaler and welded a new bottom onto the tank. Next I pulled the blower housing off and replaced the rewind spring. After that I pulled the housing off the chipper, took the flails apart and freed them up, cleaned the mouse nest out, gave everything a coat of paint.
Now I have a good chipper that starts on the second pull that I saved from going to the dump for very little money.

Blown head gasket on 5 hp walk behind blower

Tools Used

Socket set, Wrench Set, Torque Wrench

Had to figure out the torque spec on a Briggs 5 hp, horizontal shaft engine but did a little internet searching and found it.

Remove the existing motor head carefully to ensure that the bolts were tracked for reassembly and not lost. Scrapped the existing gasket material from the head and the motor housing. Took a little time to wire wheel carbon from the piston and valves. Put the new gasket on the head and reassembled. Torqued it down to what I believe is the proper spec.

Changed the spark plug and air filter.

Started on the second pull.
